One gym fanatic was left trapped under weights for 33 minutes He waited while he did for Emergency services available to rescue him.
The man was between 25-35 years old and was working out at Snap Fitness in He was in trouble at Spring Hill, Brisbane, Australia, on Thursday, 5:47 AM.
Firefighters arrived at 6:20 AM to save him. Paramedics arrived soon after. It took six minutes To remove the man under The weights.
At this point, the man was unconscious. He needed CPR.
He was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in critical condition.
At the time, there was no staff available at the gym and the man had been assisted by passers-by.
“His injury happened while doing a seated overhead press in a Smith machine,” a gym member wrote online.
“Didn’t seem life-threatening to begin with, although serious enough to call an ambulance.
“But it took about 10 to 15 minutes for it to get really serious, that is ‘he-is-now-unconscious-start-CPR-now’ serious.”
Smith machines allow users to lift barbells in the gym without the need for a spotter.
Snap Fitness is open from 10 am to 7 pm every day. Staff are available only between Monday and Thursday and 9 am to 2pm on Fridays.
Queensland Police stated that the incident was “not a criminal matter”.
